My Top 5 Experiences in TY!

I had so many great experiences in TY, that it was increadibly difficult to narrow it down to only 5 options. Even now, I feel like I will change my mind having to decide between all of these amazing experiences. However, here is my current list of my top 5 experiences in TY:

Trips

The trips were an amazing part of TY, there were so many on all the time that it felt like we were almost never in school!

Core Subjects

The core subjects in TY are an important part of TY, in my opinion. It is very important to me that I am able to keep up my Irish and Spanish, as well as continue with English and Maths so that I don't lose my abilities in them. It is with this context that I must admit that my teachers have done an extraordinary job keeping these classes engaging and interesting.

TY Options

The TY options that the school organized this year were all a refreshing new take on what could be taught during school. Mini Company especially was a great opportunity to experience what it's like being an entrepreneur in real life

TY Modules

The TY Modules that I was able to do this year were all amazing and were interesting to learn things that we normally would never get to learn in school.

Due to a bug in the code that I have unable to fix, the debating text will simply go directly here. Our teacher for debating was Ms. O'Connor. We spent the classes coming up with debating plans and having mock debates in the classroom, on topics such as toxic masculinity, censorship and social media use.

Tasters

The tasters were very helpful in deciding what subjects I wanted to choose for Leaving Cert.

Due to a bug in the code that I have unable to fix, the biology text will simply go directly here. For biology we had Mr. Farrell. We spent the majority of the classes doing different experiments and using the various pieces of lab equipment such as microscopes.

Work Experience

My Leaving Certificate Choices

  1. Computer Science: I already have a lot of knowledge of computer science (as evidenced by this website) and I am also great with computers and technology.
  2. Physics: I excelled at maths and I wanted a universally agreed upon science (computer science is counted as a science by some colleges, not all). This is the best science for me. I got a first class honours in EUE physics as well, which further proves that this subject would be a good choice.
  3. Accounting: I was excellent at accounting in the Junior Cert and I am very good with numbers and formulas, which makes accounting a natural choice for the Leaving Cert.
  4. History: I loved history in the Junior Cert and it is very easy for me to write a lot about topics I am passionate about, of which history contains many .
  5. Economics: I am great with maths and I enjoyed the economics segment in business for the Junior Cert (which I got a distinction in).
  6. Politics and Society: I can write essays well and I am already knowledgeable in politics
  7. Chemistry: I am excellent at maths and science and I got a distinction in science in my Junior Cert
  8. Religion: I was good at religion in Junior Cert and I enjoyed it.

What I got

In the end, I managed to get my top 2, but was unable to get accounting or history, and had to settle with economics instead. I am disappointed that I wasn't able to accounting or history, but I still think I will enjoy economics. My subjects for Leaving Cert will be as follows:
